The cycle VERTICALS was created in 1987, inspired by ethnographic heritage of the artist's homeland. The sculptures are carved from larger branches, trees, wood, and placed into rustic stone bases, which secure them and from which they rise like exotic plants. Simple ornamentation is carved throughout the wooden surface, colored with lime, blue vitriol, and in small part with vibrant colors. Some verticals have edges covered with metal sheets, others are perforated, creating slots, which indicates the stone penetrations and the experience of interior space.
