PENETRATIONS is De Karina's largest cycle (by the number of small carved sculptures and the number of monuments in public spaces) that he began to create in 1983/84. Penetrations is in accordance with the architectural heritage of Istrian towns. The architectural forms of the sculptures follow the forms of chapels, windows, doors, arches, altars, grindstones, troughs, etc., basically, the architectural shapes of Istrian environment. Cavities are present in all of the sculptures, as well as interior space and the penetration of the rock core. The shapes of the sculptures are mostly clear geometric forms, sharp edges and polished surface. In addition to completely geometric shapes, there are sculptures with soft edges as well as combinations of curved and geometric surfaces and sharp edges.
